Senior Product Development Engineer – Water

This is an opportunity to bring new products to market and manage the import and assessment of the manufactured item. The role involves significant supplier management and assisting the supplier with resolution of technical issues.

Role Responsibilities:

• Product Development Leadership:
  • Lead up to 3 concurrent product development projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout the product development life cycle, offering innovative solutions.
  • Manage project risks effectively to meet business objectives, collaborating with the team to resolve R&D challenges.

• Technical Expertise and Documentation:
  • Translate compliance requirements into technical specifications, ensuring accuracy.
  • Develop and update engineering documentation for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Mentor and support the engineering team, offering guidance on technical matters.

• Continuous Improvement of Existing Products:
  • Evaluate current products for cost reduction and enhancement opportunities.
  • Apply expertise in product development processes to ensure attention to detail and effective implementation.
  • Engage in hands-on development and testing of prototypes to validate design concepts.

• Internal Project Leadership:
  • Lead internal projects to improve processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

• Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand requirements and expectations thoroughly.
  • Foster strong relationships with contract manufacturers, overseeing delivery schedules and ensuring quality outcomes.
  • Act as a technical advisor, providing insights and recommendations to stakeholders on engineering matters.

Who we are looking for:

• Educational Background:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.

• Communication Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficient in SolidWorks with experience using SolidWorks PDM.
  • Possession of CAD training certificates.

• Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of employment experience, with at least 5 years in product development.
  • Previous experience in product development involving design of sheet metal, molding/casting, machining, and testing of electrical/mechanical components.
  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM).

  • Demonstrated project management skills and knowledge of delivery processes.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects, prioritise tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.
